Pacific Northwest Division
Paul Hanlin is the Pacific Northwest Regional Director of Independence Public Adjusters/Sunpoint Public Adjusters, Inc. Paul and his family live just north of the Columbia River and Portland, in Washington.
Paul’s professional career has given him 34 years in the Insurance and construction fields, making him a recognized expert in the industry. Working summers in high school on framing crews, he realized he had a high aptitude for the building trade. After finishing school he entered the construction world full time. Over the next 18 years he perfected his talents on everything from custom residential homes to light and mid-sized commercial projects, allowing him to quickly become an expert in cost estimating. This expertise brought him to the insurance world where he was called upon to do damage assessments for a number of adjusting firms on the East Coast. He saw that insurance claims were rarely estimated properly due to several issues; lack of communication between the adjuster and the insured, the inexperience of an adjuster, improper repair procedures, blatant low-ball offers or a combination of all the above.
Recognizing a need to help property and business owners who were facing the difficult tasks of preparing and negotiating a claim, Paul shifted his talents to an industry where he could be on the peoples’ side and use his experience to help others. He has dedicated the past 16 years to working as an advocate for policyholders as a licensed Public Adjuster.
Paul’s knowledge of the building industry opened the insurance door, but his desire to be a complete advocate made him quickly become an expert in adjusting, inventory analysis, and business losses.
Working on both coasts for two of the largest firms in the country gave him some real insight in the industry, and he decided to set his sights on a company that matched his ideals of excellence of work quality and total commitment to his clients. He found the perfect home in Sunpoint. The company philosophy and his are completely aligned and we are honored to have such a talent heading the Pacific Northwest Division.
"My own personal loss and the subsequent research led me to this profession. Due to a personal claim, I had to deal with my own insurance company without any professional help or knowledge of the industry. I understand the frustration, confusion, and pressure to make life-altering decisions when you are suddenly involved in a complex claim. There is nothing I like to hear more than a client stating, that the first good night’s sleep they’ve had since their loss, was the night after they placed their claim into our hands. This is one of the most emotionally rewarding careers I could have ever hoped to have."
Paul has been licensed across the U.S. Currently holds licenses in Washington, Oregon, California, and Idaho.
